    Hi all,

My name is Marc - I have a small rehab business in south east Queensland. I myself am an Exercise Physiologist, but have recently added dietitians, a physio and a podiatrist to the team.

My question is - what equipment do I specifically require for my podiatrist to begin with? I have already arranged a pod chair. However after that I'm pretty clueless.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for any help!

A lot will depend on what the bulk of the work that they will be doing involves. Contact a company like http://www.algeos.com.au/ and they should be able to help.

Thanks Craig. The vast majority of the work will be through EPC referrals for peripheral neuropathy, as well as ingrown toe nail removal.

This is the list the podiatrist I am hiring has supplied, any thoughts?

Here is a rough idea of what equipment you may require:

    1. instrument kit : 1 blacks file, 1 nail file, 1 toenail clippers, 1 scapel handle, 1 beaver blade handle. the amount of instrument kits depend on the amount of patients that will be treated on a daily or weekly basis.

    2. drill (for reducing thickened toenails, smoothing down callous and corns etc)

    3. moores discs (mini sand paper to reduce thickened skin etc)

    4. sterile bags for instruments.

    Diabetic equipment:

    1. monofilament

    2. reflex hammer

    3. Toe Brachial Index cuff (you could just get the TBI cuff instead of ABI as its a lot more accurate as studies have shown that a ABI is not sufficient enough for the smaller blood vessels in the foot. So that may save you some money).

    Thanks

On a more basic practical level:

A chair for the pod to sit on!
A chair for the pt to put all their stuff on.
    A trolley
    A lamp
    Hand washing facilities
    Clinical waste and sharps disposal
Long handled dustpan and broom for the "bits"
    Lockable drug cupboard
    Storage for dressings, paddings
    Couch roll, gloves ...........

We use a lot of stuff! Get a list from your new employee
