    Hi

Are there any reasons why you might not use needling under LA for a patient with Crohn's disease.

This disease is some dysfunction of the immune system but not an autoimmune disease.

The patient has 2 very large v.p. on ther plantar foot each about 25mm diameter

I was thinking that there may be a risk of inducing PYODERMA GANGRENOSUM in the area of needling as it is more common in Crohn's patients and is thought to be a result of immune dysfunction..

This patient is not taking any auto immune drugs only antibiotics on flare up. His GP replied to enquiry that he could see no reason that LA and needling might be contraindicated in this case.

    Cheers Dave Smith

hi sorry to correct you but crohn's is an autoimmune disorder causing inflamation and ulceration of the digestive tract and instines a few factors to consider is this patient currently experienceing a flare up is the disease under control. you say he is only taking antibiotics for flare ups what is his long term medical management as most crohns patients are taking some anti inflamatory medicine (not ibprofen as contra indicated in crohn's)
