    Hello all,

This is my first post so please forgive me. I'm a fairly newly qualified Podiatrist (11 months) working in the Gold Coast. I have started a new job in a private practice and have no senior support. Basically I was wondering if anyone knew of any good courses coming up or good books for pediatrics. Unfortunately this is my weakest aspect (I know little as it wasn't really covering in Uni) and the aspect I am least interested in (I don't like kids for a start ;) ). And what are the typical things your presented with?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Neal

Hi Neal, If you don't like kids please don't work with them, just refer them on to a colleague in another practice who specialises in podopaediatrics. Best wishes, Maire

Thanks Dave, we have one in Melbourne in August, (you are welcome to email me for more details) and I've heard on the grapevine there are some things going on at your state conference next year too.

However, I strongly agree with Maire, let your practice know that you aren't keen on kids and to book them in with the other pods or another clinic. Do yourself and the kids a favour.

Craig has mentioned a great text and I would strongly encourage you if you see one or two to also have it on hand. I mainly just see children and they present from anything with warts, ingrown toenails, foot eczema to the normal flat foot, in toe walking, metadductus, painful flat feet, idiopathic toe walking, cerebral palsy related toe walking, developmental dysplasia of the hip, SUFE, calc apophysitis and the list goes on. Kids have feet stuff, that's why we're in the job.

If you don't know it, don't treat it, don't advertise you treat it, don't let it walk through the door.

Thank you all for your replies, I think that will probably be the best course, just to not see them, but we have a drop in service so its more to gain more knowledge and feel more confident with it, in case some drop in, Ill do some research as see if there are any specialising in podopaediatrics in my area.

    Thank again for your responses.

Cylie, are there any Paeds conferences in the near future?

    Thanks.

Hi Zac, at the moment we're just recovering from the conference and haven't got anything planned.
We've been asked to run the assessment one again so I'm not sure. Email my practice or like us on facebook and you'll see when they come up. We'll give plenty of notice.
