I picked up this from a tweet from HM. Another new predatory open source foot journal is available: Journal of Foot and Ankle (obviously not the Journal of Foot and Ankle Research).

See the previous discussion on the Journal of Clinical Research on Foot & Ankle for more on the nature of this type of publishing.

The publisher of this new journal, Herbert is listed on Beall’s List of Predatory Publishers 2013 and is based in Pakistan, which might explain the bad grammar of Journal of Foot and Ankle rather than Journal of the Foot and Ankle.

  2. I'd only have to pay $500.00 (US) to have the privilege of publishing in this journal. Can't wait!:eek:

Payments by authors is quite common and many prestigious journals do it (there was some discussion on that in this thread: http://www.podiatry-arena.com/podiatry-forum/showthread.php?t=85159 )

The problem is that there are companies, like the one above and this one: http://www.podiatry-arena.com/podiatry-forum/showthread.php?t=85159 that have become known as 'predatory open source' publishers that are often based in India or Pakistan set up this as a 'business model' and harm the reputation of the legit open source publishers.

I would be interested to see if anybody has any experience with the journal "Footwear Science". I was told that a 1 yr subscription would cost $430.00 (US)? That seems a bit high to me.:(
