Hi following on from my previous thread regarding iPad apps for electronic record keeping.

I have been through this forum looking at what is available for record keeping on PC/mac and most recommendations seem to be for online based systems which have a monthly charge.

I do part time private work and use podware at the minute for my record keeping but have been interested in clinic office v5 also as I like the layout and ability to have your own templates for assessments.

Is there any other software out there which only has a one off payment for the software as I do not want to pay a monthly fee and also works on a mac as I am also considering changing from PC to Mac.

A native software for Mac would be better but even one which needs parallel like the above two could also be considered.

    Thanks
    Davey

    Hi Davey,

Unfortunately for you the software industry is moving towards a SaaS-based (Software as a Service) model. In essence, this means that you are provided with the software PLUS backup, storage, updates, support as part of the monthly price you pay.

As far as I'm aware the only standalone package designed for Podiatrists out there now is Podware, which you are obviously familiar with.

If any more spring to mind I'll add a further comment.

Sorry I couldnt be more helpful.

    Regards,

    Bob

    Thanks for the reply Bob,

Even if you can think of any stand alone software which is not specifically designed for podiatrists but could be used for routine clinical notes and medical history, it would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking into soap notes by eclectic DNA which seems promising and they have told me they will be adding a medical record part to it soon. So if all else fails I will try this.

    Cheers

    Hello Davey.

We also provide Software as a service but we are ALLIED HEALTH Specialists so we take comments such as yours SERIOUSLY.

Software is incredibly EXPENSIVE to develop as well as have all the security in there. No one wants patients notes ending up on the internet destroying credibility.

If you are a small practitioner working only a few days per week, we would look at a ONCE OFF yearly fee on a case by case basis.

I am happy to look at your situation.

    Hi Davey,
Apologies if you are already sorted but I have just joined this forum and found your post asking about standalone podiatry software.
Tynedale Computers have been developing software for podiatry since 1992. We have an NHS application, and are in some schools of Podiatry. PPMS Podiatry is our software package for Private Practitioners.

Developed alongside Podiatrists, PPMS podiatry includes Dorsal and Plantar diagrams, which can be used to automatically create treatment notes. There is also a separate module for Any Qualified Provider. Assessment templates such as biomechanics are included, but it is easy to customise and add your own assessments. This is in addition to having an appointment diary, patient record card, account package, recalls and sms text message reminders.

PPMS is available on Windows and the Apple Mac (OSX). Our Apple Mac version was written specifically for the Mac without the need to boot up into Windows.

I'm unable to post links but check out our website / Facebook Page / LinkedIn!
    Just google Tynedale Computers!
Cloud hosting is available but not necessary.
We have different pricing options available.

To see if PPMS Podiatry is for you we offer two months free rental of PPMS, including installation help, one2one online training and full telephone support. After the two months if it?s not for you, it?s not a problem there are no obligations.
    Thanks

  6. Hi Davey,

I'd echo some of the concerns above in regards to data security. As a practitioner you need to make sure your patient's data is as secure as possible.

What happens if your i Pad, MAC or PC is stolen?
Storing data directly on laptops, desktops and mobile devices is a risky business and could find you in breach of Australian privacy and/or data security laws.

A couple of years ago there was an incident on the Gold Coast where a practice's data was held to ransom due to a lack of appropriate data security measures.

This is why online solutions are most suitable for practitioners who operate out of multiple locations; their business will only succeed if their service is secure, reliable and trustworthy. So it's in their best interest to invest in serious data security measures that are often beyond reach of the smaller practice or solo-practitioner.

    coreplus can help...
I can't speak for other vendors, but coreplus has a case notes feature which you can create your own templates for; and we have four monthly subscription plans depending on how many features you need to use, starting from $5 / month / practitioner. With a subscription you always have access to the latest version of the software.

Another benefit of online software is they are hardware-agnostic. You could be on a MAC or PC; as long as you have an updated web browser, you can access the software. You are dependent on an internet connection to access your data however so as to ensure privacy and security is met, there is no such thing as 'offline' mode.

I thought i would highlight something and hope someone here could maybe give me a bit of advice. I am leaving TM2 because of the lack or support and shoddy service. I subscribed to their service for over two years. Anyway a month notice has been given however it is unlikely the case notes (patients notes) can be transferred. Therefore i have to pay them to keep access to my records , a cost of $1600, or go through every patient (about 5000) and print off the notes. Feel like i have been stung bad style!

I don't know much about how TM2 stores the data, if it's online or locally on your machine. If it's locally, it should be in a commonly recognised database type and the data should be extractable. If it's online, you're likely reliant on their ability to export it.

You can email me joel@cliniko.com with more details on what you know about how it's kept, am happy to try to help.
