What I'm trying to do is to raise people's awareness of the AGM process.

Too many people think they can't get there so they don't have a say but of course they do provided they use the proxy forms correctly and nominate someone they know is going to be there to represent their views.

If people want to tick the boxes that they feel represents their views Allan is happy to take them forward (even if they have different views).

Please use this name and address as Proxy

What worries me is that about 30 people on average turn up to AGM and they vote on key decisions that affect the whole profession and once agreed they are binding! Obviously, people will vote with the Chair and support Council views as well as people voting against.

Alternatively people can tick the box to let their representative decide for them on the day - a bit of leap of faith but at least the person will have heard all arguments at the AGM.

Before we take in Assistant Practitioners as anything other than associate members we have to protect function and not rely on their word for it that they won't set up as FHPs.

There seems to be a move from within the SCP to push not only APs but also Apprenticeships (see the last two Pod Nows which could have been retitled Assistant Pod Now!).

Members in management of NHS presumably see these grades as being a cheaper way of dealing with work that they believe is somehow 'below' what a podiatrist should be treating.

I believe we should cover the whole spectrum of foot health and in PP you cannot afford to turn away business. The problem then is there are less NHS jobs for new graduates and the existing NHS employees are in real danger of down grading other than a select few at the specialist end. SCP should represent the views of its membership as it is a membership organisation. Hence the need to get those views into every forum including especially the AGM.

  2. Hurry up..we are running out of time!!

All registered Podiatrists ...If you do not send your proxy vote in all "assistant practitioners" will become fully voting members of the Society and could potentially out vote YOU. If you do not wish this to happen see below ...

Being a member of the Society you should have had one of these. On the back is your voting form. If you read ordinary resolution 3 ...It was submitted by a guy named Chris Hunt. This resolution is so, so important. This is a vote for functional closure of the profession...something which must be done to keep out the FHPs. You may want to place an x in the box on the back of the form FOR this motion. Of further interest are special resolutions 1 and 2 ....These talk about admitting "assistant practitioners" onto the society. You may wish to put an x in the against box?? Just sayin. ..lol. This has to be returned by post to the Society no later than 4th July. Please share this page with anyone sympathetic to the cause...take this to your local branch too

    From one catperson to another,

I agree that this is a very important issue.

Unfortunately I can't help you because I left the SCP years ago.

I am disappointed that you haven't got any pledges of support on this forum, but I am with you in spirit, as they say...

Perhaps it is because some of the Members are too busy playing on the sand-dunes at St.Annes-on-Sea.
